Pre War

Son of Kate Marian (nee CASTLE) and the late Charles STUBBS.


His parents married 24 July 1883 at Holy Trinity, Haverstock Hill, London.  Charles died 12 November 1897 in Worthing, Sussex, aged 36; Kate died 1945 in the Watford district aged 82.


Bernard was born 6 March 1891 in Worthing, Sussex, and resided in Watford.


He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.


On the 1901 Census, aged 10 he was a pupil in Slough, Bucks.  On the 1911 Census, a shipping clerk aged 20, he lived in Southampton Row, London, with his widowed mother and two siblings.


Officially recorded as living in Watford when he enlisted in London.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 14 February 1915, and died of wounds received in action.  

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Bernard’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
