Pre War

Henry was born in 1897 in Harpenden to Walter Hucklesby, a bricklayer, and Lizzie (nee Hardy). The family lived on Station Road, Harpenden. On the 1911 Census Henry was at school but living with his elder brothers William, who was married, and Herbert at Connaught Road, Leytonstone.

Wartime Service

 Henry was enlisted in the West Riding Regiment (Duke of Wellington’s Own) as Private 203486 and went to France to join 1/4 Battalion which had been with BEF since April 1915. In the German Spring Offensive, the Battle of Messines was fought on 10/11 April 1918 to stem the German Advance. Henry died on 10 April 1918, his remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
