Pre War

Leslie Davies was born in Wallsend, New South Wales, the son of Rev. Thomas and Emma Davies. 


He was educated at Public School and Worcester College, Oxford, England.  He lived with his parents at Farquhar Street, Merewether, Newcastle, New South Wales and worked as a Clerk. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted on 23 July 1915 as a Private in the 4th Battalion, 11th Reinforcement.


His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A17 Port Lincoln on 13 October 1915. He was later commissioned as Lieutenant with the 53rd Battalion and was killed in action in Peronne, France on 1 September 1918, age 26. 

Additional Information

His brother: 4096 Pte Albert Edwin DAVIES, 20th Bn, was wounded at Pozieres but recovered and returned to Australia. His brother-in-law: 176 Lance Corporal Kenneth John PETER, Australian Corps School, served 3 years in France and returned to Australia, 23 July 1919.
