Pre War

.Charles was born on 15 Oct 1892 in Harpenden to George Hunt and Lizzie (nee Nash). They were living at East Hyde, Luton.


By the 1901 Census the family were living at Thrales Farm Cottages, and on the 1911 Census Charles was a farm labourer working at Home farm on the Luton Hoo Estate.

Wartime Service

Charles enlisted in the Bedfordshire Regiment in Sep 1914.


He went France, in Jul 1916, serving with 7th Battalion, when, in Sep 1916 at Thiepval in France, he sustained a Gunshot Wound to his left thigh. He was treated in hospital in Sevenoaks, Kent. On recovery he returned to France with 4th (Extra Reserve) Battalion and again sustained a shrapnel wound on 2 Feb 1917 and died on 10 Feb 1917 at No 11 Casualty Clearing Station.

War Gratuity £11 and arrears of £13 18s 7d paid to father George.
