Pre War

Frank Alfred Iddenden was born in Canterbury in 1894 to William Iddenden, agricultural labourer, and Mary Ann (nee Amos).


On the 1891 Census the family of parents, Frederick W (born 1870), Kate (born 1874), George (born 1882), Alice (born 1883), Bertha (born 1884), William C (born 1886), Florence May (born 1890) were living at New House Cottages, Thanington, Kent.


On the 1901 Census the family of parents, George (domestic gardener), William Charles  ( groom domestic), Florence May (born 1890) and Frank Albert were living at 11, Seymour Place, Canterbury, Kent.


On the 1911 Census, Frank was a footman at Ersham Hall, Canterbury. His parents were living at 5,Marlow Terrace, Wincheap, Canterbury. 


His connection to Tring is not apparent.

Wartime Service

Frank enlisted in the Bedfordshire Regiment as Private 25371 and was posted to 8th Battalion in 16 Brigade 6 Division who took part in the Battles of the Somme 1916 at Flers-Courcelette (15-22 Sep). Morval (25-28 Sep) and Le Transloy (1-18 Oct). 


Frank was wounded and he died at 33rd Casualty Clearing Station, which was situated at Bethune, on 20 Dec 1916.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £3 and arrears of £2 6s 1d was paid to his mother.
