Pre War
*1 On the St Albans memorials there are several variations of the name A Izzard, i.e. ‘A Izzard’ appears on the Citizen’s memorial and the St Saviours memorials, ‘A A Izzard’/’Arthur Albert Izzard’ appears on the Citizen’s memorial and Town hall Memorial as does ‘A W Izzard’/’Alfred William Izzard’. By comparing database records and service numbers and assuming the initials recorded to be right we believe this man’s details are correct, however it should be recognised there is still some scope for confusion particularly in respect of the St Saviours memorial, which could commemorate any of the three men.
Address later recorded as 35 Upper Culver Road, St Albans.
The Soldiers Died In The Great War database records that he was born, lived and enlisted in St Albans, Herts. He was also buried there.
Wartime Service
He was a released prisoner of war, but died in hospital in the UK.
