George Henry Jackson was born on 22 Jun 1894 (baptised 8 Nov 1894, St Peter Cricklewood) to Alfred Jackson, railway goods guard, and Annie A (nee Croxford ).


On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Annie A (born 1886, domestic servant), Frank A (born 1887, stationer’s assistant), William A (born 1891) and George H were living at 10, Johnstone Terrace, Cricklewood, Hendon, Middx.


On the 1911 Census the family of father, Annie A (housekeeper), William and George (both shop assistants) were still living at 10, Johnstone Terrace, Cricklewood.


George married Ethel Sarah Smith on 20 Oct 1916 at St Peter, Cricklewood. they came to live at  50 Common View, He worked for Kinora.

Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for George who enlisted in 2/19 (County of London) Battalion (St Pancras) as Private 613785 probably in early 1916.


The Battalion were part of 180 Brigade, 60th (2/2 London) Division and went to France on 24 Jun 1916. In Nov 1916 the Division were moved to Salonika, taking part in the  Battle of Doiran (24-25 April and 8-9 May) and on 12 Jun 1917 were again moved to Egypt.


The Division began to advance to Palestine and by 23 Jul 1917 was at Deir el Balah (8 miles SW of Gaza). They took part in the 3rd  Battle of Gaza (30 Oct – 7 Nov), George was killed in action on 7 Nov 1917 and was interred in Beersheba War Cemetery.

War Gratuity of £3 and arrears of £4 5s 2d was paid to his widow.
