Son of John and Sophia Jellis, of 5, Underhill Cottages, Underhill, Barnet, Herts.  Educated at the Barnet National School.


Charles enlisted in September 1914 and before enlisting he was working as a labourer and unmarried.

Wartime Service

Initially he joined the 3rd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment but by the time of his death had transferred to the 10th Hampshires. 


He was initially reported as missing, but by 29th January 1916 was being reported as 'killed or missing'.
