Son of Frederick Charles and Alice (nee SALES) JONES; husband of Myra (nee SANDERSON) JONES.

His parents married 1880 in the Dartford, Kent, district.  Frederick died 1930 in Watford aged 72, and was buried 23 January in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Alice died 1933 in Watford aged 75, and was buried 2 May, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Alfred was born 17 September 1884 in Watford, and baptised 19 October 1884 at St Mary’s, Watford.  He married 1914 in the Brentford, Middx, district.  Myra never remarried and died 1967 in the Hillingdon, Middx, district aged 83.

On the 1891 Census, aged 6 he lived in Sutton at Hone, Kent, with his grand-parents.  On the 1901 Census, aged 16 he lived in Watford, with his parents and eight siblings.  On the 1911 Census, an ironmonger’s assistant aged 26, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and six siblings.

Wartime Service

He originally enlisted in Watford 24 August 1908, in the Hertfordshire R.F.A. Territorial Force for four years: an ironmonger aged 24, 5’6¾” tall, unmarried of Watford; his next-of-kin was his mother.  

He served at Home until 23 August 1912 when he was discharged on the Termination of his Engagement.  He re-enlisted in Putney, London S.W., and was formerly 2nd Air Mechanic 27173 Royal Flying Corps.  

He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died of wounds received or was killed in action.
