John Henry Jones is recorded on the 1918 absent voters’ list as living at 255 New Road, Croxley Green, with his wife Fanny Eleanor Jones.

John Henry married Fanny E (nee Gunnell - born 06.02.1887) in 1911. Their marriage was registered in the Watford district in the third quarter of 1911. They had two children, William, born 26 February 1912 and Joy born 24 April 1913.

In 1939 Fanny was still living in Croxley Green at 271 New Road (the house where she was brought up) with Elizabeth Gunnell (b. 1881).

Wartime Service

Driver J H Jones, service number 102914, of the Royal Field Artillery died on 13 January 1919 and is buried at Tournai.

According to the army register of soldiers’ effects he died at the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, which was located near Steenwerck in northern France.

After his death the army paid his widow Fanny £35 19s 6d including a war gratuity of £20 10s 0d.
