This man has proved elusive so far. There is only one man in the CWGC records with this name, but he served in the Canadian Army with no apparent connection to Hemel Hempstead or Hertfordshire, and none identified in the SDITGW database. If the searches are extended to include Kearns and Kearnes there more potential matches, but so far none have an obvious connection.
