Pre War

Henry Wilby was born in Aldenham in 1888 to Reuben Kerlogue, a grocery manager, and Mary Ann (nee Mawbey). On the 1891 Census the Family were living at 172 Park Road, Hornsey. Frank was the youngest of five brothers, George (born 1878), Herbert (born 1880), Charles (born 1882), Harold (born 1884). On the 1911 Charles and Henry were living with his father and Aunt at 10, the Pavement, Crouch End, Middx. Both Charles and Henry were listed as paper clerks.


Henry married Violet Beatrice Nelian in 1912. There were to be 2 daughters, Marjorie (born 1915), Dora (born 1917) and a son Robert (born 1916). Violet later lived at 10, the Pavement, Crouch End, Middx.

Wartime Service

Henry enlisted in the (Duke of Cambridge’s Own) Middlesex Regiment as Private 29344 and joined the 3rd Battalion in Salonika on the Balkan Front.


Henry died of Malaria at 80 General Hospital situated at Hortajkoi on 28 Sep 1918.

Additional Information

His widow, Mrs. V. B. Kerlogue, 10, The Pavement, Middle Lane, Crouch End, London., N8., ordered his headstone inscription: "UNTIL THE DAY BREAKS AND THE SHADOWS FLEE AWAY". War Gratuity of £10 and arrears of £16 0s 2d was paid to his widow.


Brother Charles served with Essex Regt (Serial 42480) and survived the war
