Born 12th May 1899 in West Hyde and christened 28th November 1899.

The 1901 census record shows him living at the Cottage, Wharf Lane, Rickmansworth with his father William Langham aged 34, a cochman, his mother Harriet 25 and sister Laura aged 1.

The 1911 census shows the family living at 4 George Street Uxbridge. A brother Richard aged 7 is recorded. Born in Rickmansworth.
