John Arthur Lawrenson was born in Waterloo, Liverpool, Lancashire, on 19th March 1899, son of John Arthur Lawrenson a, Ships Purser and Mary Anna “Minnie” Lawrenson (nee Cummins). The eldest of four children.

John Jr. was baptised at St. Johns Church, Everton, Liverpool, Lancs, on 30th March 1899.

1901 Census records John Jr. aged 2, living with his mother Minnie at, 3 Hougoumont Avenue, Waterloo, Liverpool, Lancs. They had a live-in General Domestic Servant. His father was away at sea on the night of the census.

1911 Census records John Jr. aged 12, living with his mother, brothers Cyril (9), Harold (5) and sister Kathleen (7) at, 178 Crossbrook Street, Waltham Cross/Cheshunt, Herts. His uncle John Cummins was living with the family, and they had a live-in General Domestic Servant. His father was away at sea on the night of the census.

Wartime Service

John Jr. enlisted at Cheshunt, Herts, posted to the Kings Royal Rifle Corps and issued with the service number 44261. Seeing action on the Western Front, he was Killed in Action on 18th June 1918, aged 19. He is buried in the CWGC Sucrerie Cemetery, Ablan-St.-Nazaire, France.  

Additional Information

His effects of £4-15-7, pay owing and his war gratuity of £4-10-00, went to his mother Minnie.


His Headstone inscription: “REST IN PEACE BELOVED” was requested by his father John.
