Son of George and Agnes Mary Swain, of Maynes Cottages, Gorhambury, St. Albans and he was born in St Albans (or possibly nearby).


In 1911 his address Maynes Cottages, Gorhambury, St Albans and currently is belibed to have been living there when war commenced.


The SDITGW records him as living in St Albans when he enlisted there.
