Pre War

Born 1886 in Thundridge, Herts. Son of Joseph and Eliza (Wood) Martin. Baptised on the 31st October 1886 in Thundridge, Herts. The 1891 Census shows him aged 4 years old living in Wadesmill, Herts. With his parents and the 1901 Census shows him aged 14 years, living in Wadesmill, Herts. With his parents 2 brothers, George 10 & John 2 and his sister Maud 6. His occupation is given as a gardener (not domestic). The 1911 Census shows him aged 24 years, living at Shepherds Cottages, West Mill, Ware, Herts. With his parents 3 brothers, George 20, John 12 & Sydney 4 and sister Dorthea 1. His occupation is given as a Farm Labourer.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Hertford. Into the Northamptonshire Regiment with the Service No 25478. Later being transferred/posted to the 12th (Service) (Sheffield City) Battalion, York & Lancaster Regiment. With the Service No31327. He was Killed in Action on the 30th December 1917.
