Pre War

Charles Thomas was born in 1899 to John Mashford, a Coachbuilders Labourer, and Alice (nee Smith).


In 1901 the family were living in New Road, Northchurch and in 1911 they were at Eddy Street, Berkhamsted.

Wartime Service

Charles was enlisted as Private 75902 in the Royal Fusiliers (London regiment).


He was killed in action on 24 April 1918 and is interred in Hangard Wood Cemetry near Villers- Bretonneaux, Somme.

War Gratuity £4 10s and arrears £5 11s paid to mother Alice.
