Pre War

Percy was born on 15 Nov 1891 in Harpenden. He was the youngest son of William Deamer, a gardener and groom and Martha (nee Harvey). His family were living at Upper Cravelles Road, Harpenden in 1911 and Percy was a gardener.

Wartime Service

Percy enlisted in Herts Regiment as Private 5046. From his serial number this could have been May /Jun 1915. In Nov 1916 the Herts Regiment was on the front line on the Somme and were to take in an attack on Hansa Line on 13 Nov 1916. This attack was successful but 20 other Ranks were killed that day. Percy was killed in action, although he had listed as ‘Missing’ for a time.
