Born in 1895 in St. Pancras, London son of Walter and Sarah Elizabeth (Waite) Sydee and living in 11 Boulogne Road, Croydon in 1901 and in 11 Johnson Road, Croydon in 1911 as a gas fitter’s apprentice and latterly at 22 Tamworth Road, Hertford.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Bedford formerly 6219, Middlesex Regiment and was killed in action.

Walter is also commemorated on the family headstone in Hertford Corporation Cemetery. Their inscription reads:

ALSO HIS ELDEST SON WILFRED WALTER. KILLED IN FRANCE MAY 25TH 1918. AGED 23.

Walter's brother, Leonard Alfred Sydee, who died in the Second World War, is also listed.
