Pre War

Son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Miles, of Bank Cottage, Baldock Rd., Buntingford, Herts. Born in Layston and was living in Buntingford when he enlisted in Royston.


Arthur was born in 1894 to Thomas and Eliza Miles and in the 1901 census they were living along with five brothers and sisters in Bridgefoot, Buntingford.  By 1911 they had moved to Meeting Alley, Baldock Road, Buntingford. Arthur was a farm labourer.

Died of wounds. 

Additional Information

On the Commonwealth War Graves site it gives his parents address later as Bank Cottage, Baldock Lane, Buntingford.

His brother Walter also lost his life during the war.

His headstone inscription, chosen by his mother, reads: “We only want dear lord to be united to our boy from his loved ones“.
