Pre War

Joseph William Miles was born on 20 January 1890 to Charles and Eliza Miles in Bishop's Stortford, where they were living at Windhill. He was baptised on 30 March 1890 at St Michaels, Bishop's Stortford. His father died in late 1891 and his mother remarried to Alfred Smith. On the 1911 Census he was living with his stepfather and mother at 55 Bartholomew Road, Bishop's Stortford, Herts and working as a carpenter. 

Wartime Service

Joseph served with the Royal Field Artillery and rose to the rank of Corporal. He survived the war but died shortly afterwards at home in Bishop's Stortford.
