Pre War

Born in 1892 in Hertford son of George and Ellen Miles living in 39 Castle Street, Hertford in 1901 and in 93 Somerset Terrace, West Street, Hertford in 1911 working in a leather dressing factory.


He was engaged to be married to Miss D Lawrence.

Wartime Service

Transferred to (475511) Clearing Office Labour Corps.

Died in Napsbury Hospital, St Albans after a long and painful illness.

Additional Information

As well as being buried in All Saints Churchyard in Hertford, he is also commemorated on the family headstone there, the inscription reads: "In Loving Memory of Pte Water Miles, Royal Scots Youngest and Dearly Beloved Son of George and Ellen Miles Who Died 12th Nov.r 1918, Aged 26 Years.


This Stone Was Erected by His Loving Mother.
