Pre War

Frank Millwood was born in Tring in 1888 to Edmund Henry Millwood, piano worker, and Lydia (nee Young).


On the 1891 Census the family of parents, Ethel (born 1883), Ann (born 1886) and Frank, were living at 121, Villiers Road, Willesden.


On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Ethel (dressmaker), Ann (tailoress), Frank, Ernest (born 1892), Edith (born 1894) and Sydney A (born 1898) were living at 121, Villiers Road, Willesden.


Frank enlisted as Private 10518 in Duke of Cambridges’s Own (Middlesex Regiment) in 1905 (serial 10063 was issued on 16 Feb 1905 & 10883 was issued on 2 Jan 1906).


On the 1911 Census Frank’s parents, Ethel, Ernest (upholsterer), Edith and Sydney A were living at 179, Chapter Road, Cricklewood.


Frank was registered as a Lance Corporal with 3rd Battalion, Middlesex Regiment serving in India.

Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for Frank, at the outbreak he may been still serving.


He had gained the rank of Sergeant and went to France on 11 Nov 1914 to join 4th Battalion, Middlesex, part of 8 Brigade, 3 Division in the Ypres Sector. In Nov 1915 the Battalion was transferred to 63 Brigade, 21 Division and moved to the the Somme area to take part in the the Battle of Albert (1-13 Jul). Frank was killed in action on 1Jul, the opening day of this Battle.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £13 10s and arrears of £15 6s 9d was paid to his mother Lydia.
