Arthur Henry George Milton was born on 10 July 1899 at Bishops Stortford to Walter and Alice Edith Milton, and baptised on 10 September 1899 at St Michael’s, Bishop's Stortford. 


On the 1911 Census he was living with his family at 21 King Street, Bishop's Stortford, when he was an 11 year old schoolboy and his father was working as a Malster’s Labourer. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Hertford and served with the 26th (Banker’s) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) which was raised in London in July 1915 from volunteers who were mainly bank clerks and accountants (N.B. it is not known when Arthur joined the battalion).

Additional Information

His mother received a war gratuity of £4 10s and pay owing of £9 0s 2d.
