Haileybury College Cloister Wall Memorial, Hertford Heath

Pre War

Born on 12 Jan 1895 in Sunderland son of Lt. Col. Maurice and Florence Mary (Storey) Moore of Westburn House, Sunderland. Educated at Haileybury College 1909-11 and Armstrong College, Newcastle-on-Tyne where he graduated B.Sc. in 1915. He was unmarried.

Wartime Service

Gazetted Flight Sub-Lieutenant R.N.A.S. on 18 Oct 1915 and obtained his wings on 27 Nov 1915. Promoted to Flight Lieutenant on 1 Apr 1917, he served in Gibraltar, Lemnos and Salonika and finally at Mudros from 15 Oct 1917. Mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 28 Nov 1917).

He was killed on a reconnaissance flight when his aeroplane dived inexplicably into the ground shortly after take-off from Mudros.

Additional Information

Brother of Captain Edward Hayden Moore MC who died in action on 25 Apr 1917 in France and is also commemorated on these memorials.
