Pre War

He was the son of Mr and Mrs H. Morgan of Charlton near Hitchin and was born in Hitchin and lived in Charlton.

Wartime Service

Ernest joined the army by October 1914 and was allocated the Regimental Number G/2680 in the 9th Battalion of the Regiment.


He died of wounds in Belgium. The 9th Battalion was part of the 72nd Brigade in the 24th Division at the Battle of Loos near Hulluch on the 26th September 1915, but he was in the Ypres Sector at the time of his death.


He was buried in Plot I, Row B, Grave 2 in the Reninghelst New Military Cemetery south west of Poperinghe in Belgium. The cemetery was opened to serve the local Dressing Stations and Field Ambulances. 

Additional Information

His gravestone bears the personal inscription "Peace perfect peace, God is love".
