Pre War

Born on 7 Apr 1894 in Ayr son of James Archibald and Elizabeth (Forgan) Morris of Savoy Croft, Ayr. Educated at Haileybury College 1908-11. Obtained a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the Ayrshire Royal Horse Artillery on 7 Mar 1913. He was unmarried.

Wartime Service

He was promoted to Lieutenant on 22 Mar 1915. He was an instructor in signalling, telephoning, map-reading and dispatch riding. The battery was sent to Egypt in Feb 1916 and took part in the desert advance into Palestine. He joined the Royal Flying Corps on 10 Aug 1916 and obtained his wings on 16 Dec. He returned to England and then entered France with the Expeditionary Force on 21 Mar 1917. He was listed as missing believed killed after fighting at Arras.
