Pre War

Son of Emily (formerly MOSS, nee DAWS) ABBISS and the late Joseph MOSS.

His parents married 1883 in the Petersfield, Hants, district.  Joseph died 1905 in the Alton, Hants, district aged 54.  Emily remarried 1906 in the Alton district to Sidney ABBISS, she died 1919 in Watford aged 54, and was buried 12 April in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford.

William was born 1892 in Headley, Hants, and resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 8 he lived in Headley, with his parents and six siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a timber merchant’s labourer aged 18, he lived in Kempston, Beds, with his mother, step-father and four siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Bedford; appears to have no medals, and was presumed killed in action.

Additional Information

Unfortunately, William’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
