Pre War

James Dermot Neill, born in Belfast was the oldest son of Sharman D. Neill and Annie Symonds (nee Tomlin), of Ardmoyle, Cultra, Co. Down.


He was educated at Royal Belfast Academic Institution, Aldenham School and Queens University Belfast.


Wartime Service

After the outbreak of war he joined ‘A’ Company, 13th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles and afterwards transferred to the Machine Gun Corps attached the 36th (Ulster) Division.


He was killed in action 1 Jul 1916 in the vicinity of Thiepval.
