Born in 1892 son of David and Julia (Warren) Newell, of 13 Hartham Lane, Hertford and living there as a general labourer in 1901 and 1911.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Hertford, entered France on 6 Nov 1914 and was killed in action in the fire trench at Cuinchy (Mentioned in battalion diary).

Additional Information

Believed to be listed as D Newell on the Hertford Town Memorial. Brother of Private Alfred Thomas Newell who was killed in action on 16 Aug 1917 and is also commemorated on these memorials.
