Pre War

Born on 28 Mar 1898 in Great Malvern, Worcestershire son of Walter Frederick and Ellen Sarah Newton. Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1910-12, he emigrated to Canada to learn farming.

Wartime Service

Enlisted on 5 Jan 1915 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He came to England in May 1915 on the Metagama and, because of a recent operation on his throat, was not fit for duty overseas. He worked in Canadian H.Q. until he entered France in May 1917. He was standing in a captured enemy trench during the attack on Hill 60 at Loos when he was hit in the head and instantly killed by shrapnel from an enemy shell. He was buried beside the trench but his grave was subsequently lost.
