Born on 16 May 1879 in Glengollan, Donegal, Ireland son of Thomas Norman D.L. and J.P. and Annie Norman. Educated at Haileybury College 1891-94 and Clare College, Cambridge. He married Helen Frances Mary Miller in Derry Cathedral on 14 Nov 1912 and had one daughter.
