Pre War

Born on 6 Jan 1884 in Upton Pyne, Devon son of the Rev. Prebendary the Hon. John Stafford and Hilda Cardew Northcote. E ducated at Haileybury College 1897-1902. Worked as a Civil Engineer in Belfast and was Inspecting Engineer on the Atlantic Transport Line.

Wartime Service

Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant 16 Nov 1914. He entered France on 5 Mar 1916 and was killed in action while leading his men into a hailstorm of bombs in the second line of German trenches north of Thiepval.

Additional Information

Brother of 2nd Lieutenant Hugh Farrar Northcote who was killed in action on 28 Apr 1916 and is also commemorated on this memorial.
