Additional Information
*1 There are two men with similar names with Hertford connections Private 44089, George William Robert Nunn, 10th Bn. Essex Regiment and Private 291507, George Robert Nunn, 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles - the latter served as G Roberts, so there is the potential for confusion. However, as the commemorations on the Hertford Town and All Saints Church memorials include the initial ‘W’ and ‘William’ respectively, we can be confident that they refer to the former soldier. There is also a family grave in All Saints with Saint John Churchyard and the inscription on the foot reads “George Robert Killed in Action 29th(prob) 1917” – the date being obscured by lichen - because of the date, lack of the initial ‘W’ we believe this refers to the latter Private 291507 and is probably the grave of his parents George and Emma Nunn - we do not currently have confirmation of this.
