Born on 11 Sep 1881 in Rennington, Northumberland son of Rev. Frederick B. Nunneley, M.A., M.D. Educated at Haileybury College 1895-98.

Wartime Service

A regular officer before WW1, he was promoted to Lieutenant on 20 Aug 1914 and entered France on 25 Nov 1914. For a time, he was attached to the 1st Lancashire Fusiliers as company commander and was wounded on first day of the Battle of the Somme on 1 Jul 1916 and was awarded the Military Cross (London Gazette 26 Sep 1916). On 8 Mar 1917 Captain Nunneley was appointed 2nd in command of “C” Coy. 4th Bedfordshires. Promoted to Major on 24 Mar 1917, he became 2nd in command of the 4th battalion on 6 Jun 1917. He was killed in action by a shell along with his C.O. Lt Col Collings-Wells (who was awarded the V.C. for his actions), two other officers and a. medic while leading the battalion in an attack on the enemy at the railway at Albert early in the German Spring Offensive
