Pre War

Son of Jane (nee VILES) and the late Henry OLIVER; husband of Ada (nee TIBBLES) OLIVER.

His parents married 5 June 1876 at St John the Evangelist, Kilburn, London.  Henry died 1915 in Watford aged 60, and was buried 6 July in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Jane died 1939 in the Watford district aged 82, and was buried 14 December, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Thomas was born 1879 in Watford, and baptised 16 July 1886 at St Mary’s, Watford.  He married 1915 in the Watford district, and resided in Watford.  Ada remarried 1918 in the Watford district to Francis A PREIS; she died 1950 in Watford aged 69, and was buried 7 June in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

On the 1881 Census, aged 1 he lived in Watford, with his parents and two siblings.  On the 1891 Census, aged 11 he still lived in Watford, with his parents and seven siblings.  On the 1901 Census, he is possibly the general labourer aged 23, a prisoner in H.M. Prison, St Alban’s, Herts.  On the 1911 Census, he is proving elusive.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in London; was entitled to the British War medal, and died at sea when the troop ship Royal Edward was struck by a torpedo fired by German submarine U-14, and sank in the Aegean Sea.

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Thomas’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
