Pre War

Frederick William Overton was born in 1890 in Enfield, Middlesex, the son of Frederick and Fanny Overton and one of ten children. 


On the 1891 Census the family were living at Cedar Cottage, Enfield where his father was working as a joiner. They remained there in 1901 but had moved in 1911 to 52 Abbey Road, Enfield, at which time 21 year old Frederick was working as a clerk. 


His parents later lived at The Three Horse Shoes, Barkway, Royston, Herts. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Enfield and joined the London Regiment, serving with the 5th (City of London) Battalion. 


He died, from wounds received in action, on 26 June 1917, aged 27, at the 49th Casualty Clearing Station and is buried in Achiet-le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension, France. 

Additional Information

His father received a war gratuity of £4 10s and pay owing of £3 16s 7d. Pension cards exist  naming his father as dependant but give no details of any pension paid.
