Pre War

George Henry Owen was said to have been born in Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead, Herts according to SDIGW, the son of George and Agnes Owen, however no birth records have been found that agree with this. The most likely alternative is George Owen born in 1899 in Wolverhampton, Staffs. 


He was said to be living in Rochdale, Lancashire on enlistment and on pension records his parents lived at 1 Star Court, Baron Street, Rochdale, Lancs.

Wartime Service

George enlisted in Bury, Lancashire and served with the 16th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. 


He died of wounds received in action on 14 August 1918 and is buried in Bouchoir New British Cemetery, France. 

Additional Information

His father George received a war gratuity of £6 and pay owing of £4 9s 6d. Although pension records have been found they give no indication of the amount of pension received.
