Pre War
Joseph Frederick Richard Page was born in 1891, in Mile End, London, son of Joseph James Page a, Yardman and Prudence Clara Page (nee Harris). The eldest of five children although one died in infancy, William (B 1894), Charles (B 1905) and Phyllis (B 1909).
He was Baptised on 22nd July 1891, at Saint Anthony, Globe Road, Stepney, Middx.
1901 Census records Joseph Jr. Aged 9, living with his parents and brother William (7) at, 9 Eden Road, Beckenham, Kent.
1911 Census, no record of Joseph Jr. was found. His parents, brother Charles (6) and sister Phyllis (2) are living at, 5 King Edward Road, Waltham Cross, Herts.
Wartime Service
At the outbreak of war Joseph was a serving soldier with the Royal Field Artillery. Arriving in France on 27th September 1914.
He was Killed in Action on 21st March 1918, aged 26. He is buried in the Vaulx Hill Cemetery in France.
Additional Information
His mother Prudence received a Dependents Pension of 3/6 a week from 19th November 1918, increased to 15/- a week from 7th December 1918.
His effects of £55-15-10, and his war gratuity of £22, went to his father Joseph James Page.
The inscription on his Headstone “TO MY DEAR BELOVED SON GOD WILL NEVER LEAVE THEE FROM HIS LOVING MOTHER” was requested by Mrs. Page, of 4 Violet Cottages, Catherine Road, Enfield Lock, Middx, his mother.
