Pre War
Stanley was born in Little Munden in 1886 ( although some army records say Standon) the son of Arthur arid Charlotte Acres. In 1891 they are living in Harlow and his father is a farm foreman and Stanley is shown as born in Little Munden. In 1901 they are living in Loughton, and Stanley is shown as a baker, born Little Munden. In 1909 he married Alice Bridges and in 1911 they are living in Loughton, with Stanley as a baker, born Gt Munden. In 1913 a daughter Joyce was born.
Recorded in the Soldiers Died in the Great War as born in Standon, but should be Little Munden.
Wartime Service
He is said to have enlisted at Southend, probably into the Army Service Corps (being a tradesman - a baker) and later transferred to the Welsh Rgt, probably to make up numbers.
It seems that he may have died of an illness, as the Medal Card just says "died" and he is buried in a cemetery in Rouen.
Additional Information
Stanley Acres. Di Vanderson checked various places, census, CWGC and found a Stanley Acres, Baker (as mentioned on medal cards for his service number). There is no evidence about him being a Standon native.
