Pre War
Son of Henry and Harriet Elizabeth (nee MADLE) PAMPLIN of Watford.
His parents married 1 September 1872 at St Michael’s, Wood Green, Middx. Henry died 1921 in Watford aged 71, and was buried 13 June in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Harriet died 1930 in Watford aged 77, and was buried 18 June, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Frederick was born 3 March 1891 in Watford, and baptised 9 April 1893 at St Andrew’s, Watford. He attended first Sotheron Road Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School, Watford, from 3 January 1898 to 3 March 1905.
On the 1891 Census, aged one month he lived in Watford, with his parents and six siblings. On the 1901 Census, aged 10 he still lived in Watford, with his parents and five siblings. On the 1911 Census, a railway saloon attendant aged 20, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings.
Officially recorded as born in Watford and enlisted in Winchester.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Winchester, Hants; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 22 August 1915, and was killed in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Frederick’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing. There is an In Memoriam for Frederick in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 31 August 1918.
