Pre War

Frank Alcock was born 1 November 1885 in London to John Foster Alcock, a Shipowner and Broker, later ice merchant, and Augusta Lacland (nee White).

By 1891 the family were living in High Street, Berkhampsted and his father gave his occupation as Shipowner and Shipbroker.

In 1901 they had moved to Exhims, High Road, Northchurch, Herts, when his father gave his occupation as London Ice Merchant, however Frank was not listed with his family and he was a boarder at the Kelly College, Tavistock, Devon. Later he was educated at Temple Grove and Radley College, Abingdon, Oxon. Frank joined the Honourable Artillery Company as Private 4909 in Oct 1907 giving two addresses, Northchurch and London. He resigned 30 Oct 1911.

Frank's father John died in 1910 and on the 1911 Census Frank was living in Ingram House Residential Club, London giving his occupation as Mercantile Clerk. His mother appears to have been listed twice on the 1911 Census, once at Northchurch at Exhims, and also at Endsleigh Palace Hotel, Gordon Street, London as a visitor.

Wartime Service

Frank enlisted in the Rhodesia Regiment as Private 1574 on 3 Apr 1916 and went to East Africa.

He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant 1394 on  1 Jan 1917 ad attached to 3rd/2nd Battalion Kings African Rifles as Machine Gun Officer.

He died from Dysentery at Lindi, Tanzani on 3 Sep 1917.
