Pre War

Charles St Vincent was born in 1888. There seems to be no definite records as to his early life. He married Eleanor Harriet Elizabeth Kiillerby on 9 Mar 1912 at Hornsey Rise Islington. Giving his occupation as Captain in Army and his address as Great Northern Hotel, King’s Cross, London.


Charles was an employee of Central Cordoba Railway in Argentina as an accountant and returned from South America arriving in Liverpool on 20 Jan 1915 giving his onward address as 5, Chantry Gardens, Muswell Hill, London. 

Wartime Service

He volunteered for the Middlesex Regiment as Private PS/1479 (PS prefix to his regimental number indicates he was assigned to 16th (Public Schools) Battalion).  Charles landed with this Battalion in France on 17 Nov 1915.


He was gazetted as 2nd Lieutenant to 3rd Battalion East Kent (Buffs) Regiment on 11 Aug 1916 from an Officer Training Unit. Charles was attached to Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) and was Mentioned in Despatches on 3 occasions. He was wounded on 2 Feb 1917 and died on 16 Feb 1917 in Barnet War Hospital.
