Not on the St Albans memorials

Pre War

*1 There us a ‘G W H’ Payne on some of the St Albans memorials, this man, ‘W H’ (Watson Heathcote) Payne who died has been found, and he was recorded as living in St Albans when he enlisted, yet he does not appear on any St Albans memorial. Obviously the W H matches to the ‘G W H’, but we have found no evidence that he was also named George, so we have listed him as ‘Not on the St Albans memorials - G W H Payne for deatils of who wh belive that man to be.

The Soldiers Died In The Great War database records that he was living in St Albans when he enlisted in Bedford.
