Pre War
Henry Dimmock was born in Baldock, Herts in 1876, the son of Henry and Emma Dimmock. On the 1881 Census the family were living at Norton Street, Baldock where his father was working as a fishmonger. His father died later in the year and by the 1891 Census Henry was a lodger living at Chapel End, Layston, Herts at the home of Richard and Sophia Howard. Richard was a chimney sweep and Henry was working as a chimney sweep's assistant.
Henry married Maria Hunt on 21 March 1897 at St Michael's Church, Worcester. He gave his occupation as hawker and on the 1901 Census they were living in South Street, Worcester where he was again working as a hawker. Also listed was their 1 year old son Henry. They remained at the same address in 1911 and had then been joined by Elizabeth, Emily and Gertrude. A further daughter Phyllis, was born in 1913.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Blandford, Dorset, and served with the 4th Worcestershire Regiment.
Henry died on 20 November 1916 from wounds received in action, aged 43. He is buried in Grove Town Cemetery, Meaulte, France
Additional Information
His widow received a war gratuity of £3 and pay owing of £3 5s 7d. She also received a pension of £1 8s 9d a week for herself and her four children. Her address on pension records was 53 Carden Street, Worcester.
