Ronald was born on 3rd September 1897, the eldest son of Henry P. and Amelia J. Arnholz, of 62, Fairhazel Gardens, South Hampstead, London, N W 6.


When war was declared he was still in education, but declined to return to school, and instead joined the Inns of Court for officer training, he was only just 17.

Wartime Service

He was Gazetted as Second Lieutenant in the Hertfordshire Regiment on 25th March 1915.  His Colonel refused to let him go to France because of his age, When volunteers were sought for Mesopotamia in January 1916 he did so and went in February. In August 1917 he volunteered for another Front  - France, but was not sent until April 16, 1918.


Ronald died eleven days before his 21st birthday. At that time he was attached to the Bedfordshire Regiment. He was killed at the head of his platoon in what was reported to be a successful attack.
