Born on 15 Aug 1897 at Barrow Rectory, Chester son of the Rev. Henry Abel and Mary Lyle (Smyth) Arnold later of Wolsingham Rectory, Co. Durham.


Educated at Haileybury College 1911-15. Had intended to take holy orders. He was unmarried.

Wartime Service

Obtained a commission on 23 Nov 1916 and acted as battalion Intelligence Officer. Died of wounds in the Military Hospital, Camiers.
