Pre War

Born in 1891 in Battersea, London son of Walter and Lydia Crook later of 32 Gladstone Road, Ware.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Hertford formerly 2944 Hertfordshire Regiment and with them he entered France on 23 Jan 1915. He was first wounded at Festubert and then transferred to the Bedfordshires and was wounded again and evacuated to England. He died of wounds in hospital at Harrogate.

Additional Information

He had three brothers, Private Walter Crook, Private Ernest Crook and Company Sergeant Major Frederick Crook who also fought and survived WW1.


Arthur's grave (not CWGC) bears the inscription:

IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR DEAR SON PTE. ARTHUR JOHN CROOK 1st HTS., WHO DIED OF WOUNDS,
SEP - 22ND 1918, AGED 27 YEARS
GREATER LOVE HAS NO MAN THAN THIS, BUT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS.
