Albert Sidney Perry was born on 13 Apr 1893 in Bishop's Stortford to Edward Perry, a well sinker, and Louisa (nee Trundle) and was baptised on 31 May 1893 at Hockerill, Herts. 


On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Edward (a wellsinker’s labourer), Alfred (coachbuilder’s boy), Bertie (born 1892), Albert Sidney, Arthur (born 1896), Gertrude (born 1898) and Beatrice May (born 1900) were living at 1 Bramblefields, Bishops Stortford. Albert's mother died in 1904.


On the 1911 Census, Albert was living with his widowed father and Gertrude, Beatrice and Eva (born 1901) at 14 Stansted Road, Bramble Field, Bishop's Stortford, Herts and working as a Grocer’s Porter.

Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for Albert. He enlisted in Bishop's Stortford as Private 14758 in the Bedfordshire Regiment and following his training was posted to 7th (Service) Battalion. 


He went to France on 26 July 1915 with his battalion in the 18th (Eastern) Division. The Battalion were in action on 1 Jul 1916 (Battle of Albert) when in company were 6th Northants they assaulted the German front lines capturing the Pommiers Redoubt near Montaubon. Albert was wounded in this action and died at 45th Casualty Clearing Station on 2 Jul 1916.

Additional Information

Brother to Alfred Perry who died on 24 Dec 1914 and Edward Perry who died 26 Mar 1917 both of whom are named on Bishop's Stortford & Hockerill Memorials. His father Edward received a War Gratuity of £8 and arrears of £10 16s 0d. He also received a pension of 5 shillings a week from 31 May 1921 for life.
