Born on 17 March 1892 in Weston, son of Alfred and Catherine Austin of Hitchin Lane, Weston. Baptised in Holy Trinity Church, Weston on 17 April 1892. 1911 Census: living with family at Hitchin Road, Weston and working as a farm labourer.

Wartime Service

Ronald was on the Army reserve list and was called up when war broke out. He left Harwich for the front at the end of October 1914. By December he was in hospital suffering from frostbite. He was reported missing (along with 26 others) following a German bombardment of the trenches at Violanes, west of Bethune.

Additional Information

Brother of Alfred Ernest Austin also named on the memorial. Mother and father, as joint legatees, received a war gratuity of £3.
